Hello rudy@ Why not use your MacBook's built-in iSight? Read on for some thoughts about your QuickCam® Pro 4000. Because you are using 10.4.10, any external USB webcam that supports the latest 'UVC' standard will work without additional software. Unfortunately, your QuickCam® Pro 4000 seems NOT to be one of those. If you want to use your QuickCam® Pro 4000 with iChat AV on your MacBook, adding will let you do so. You will also need to add the specific driver software identified there. Msn Messenger for Mac is a text only app. You can use it or an iChat Jabber connection to text with your msn Messenger contacts, but for a video connection with them you have three choices. Be sure to check system requirements for camera compatibility with both the OS and application software you intend to use.

(1) Because your iNtel Mac can use or to run Windows software, you can choose which method you want to use, add the required software to your MacBook (if you have not already done so), and then install and use the same Windows version that your contacts are using to do video. (2) and (3) There are two alternative clients of the msn Messenger server that can allow Mac video with PC Microsoft/MSN Messenger users: and. Either can work with OS X. If you want video without adding Windows to your iNtel Mac, use whichever one of these two you find more reliable or easiest to use.

Cheers EZ Jim PowerBook 1.67 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.10) G5 DP 1.8 External. I hope posting here will bring this thread back to the top. I am also now trying to connect a Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 to my MacBook. I have followed the various links and suggestions here and have installed what I believe to be the latest USB drivers for the Quickcam/Mac, but I'm still not finding the Quickcam. I connect the camera, then go to Applications and open the 'Logitech Camera Control' app, an I get a dialog box that says 'You must start a video application before using this application.' What application am I supposed to start. I was already connected to a web-based cam service that I was trying to cam-cast to.

What else does it need. I also opened the Quick Capture application, and that is not seeing the camera either.

All I've got is a blue screen, and when I click either 'Take a Picture' or 'Start Recording,' I get another dialog box that says 'An unexpected problem has occurred. (gpc1:706) I have no idea what that means. So it appears my Quickcam does not want to play nice with my MacBook, even though I've installed what I believe to be the necessary software/drivers. So, what else am I supposed to do? Didn't have THIS problem with Windows. An no, I do not want to use the lid-mounted camera, I need to be able to shoot from other angles.

Hello driver49 Just as some applications software can access your iSight's video capability, you must be using some applications software to operate external QuickCam® Pro 4000. That application is the one you are 'supposed to start'. I was already connected to a web-based cam service that I was trying to cam-cast to. What else does it need. Were you using Safari or some other browser when you were trying to cam-cast to a web-based cam service? If so, that may be the software you are 'supposed to start'. If you are trying to use Safari or some other browser with your webcam for live video cam-casting, you may need to configure your Flash plugin settings. Navigate to the website you want to use. If you do not immediately see an 'Adobe Flash Player Settings' dialog box, put your mouse pointer over the video window that is playing and control-click. This should open the 'Adobe Flash Player Settings' dialog box. Adjust the 'Settings' in the Flash dialog box as follows:.

Click on the webcam icon. Select the USB Camera setting. (Firewire cam users would set the webcam camera setting to 'IIDC Firewire Video'.). You can then click on the microphone icon to set your 'Microphone,' 'Record Volume,' and 'Reduce Echo' settings.

You should also click the privacy icon and verify that the 'Allow' button is selected. If 'Deny' is selected, you will not be able to send or recored video or audio. Close the dialog box and see if your camera works now. If the above does not solve your problem, you will need help from the website or from Logitech. Many live video sites have unique requirements, so try that first. The FAQs or Help links at the site should give you the best answers for your compatibility, configuration, and operating questions concerning their particular operations.

If the web site's Help doesn't get success for you, try contacting Logitech Help or Support to see whether they may have the answers you need. If nothing else works, consider one of the new without additional software. If I misunderstood what you are trying to do, please include what software you are using and as many particulars as possible about what you are trying to do when you post back. You may want to start a new topic of your own. Your particular problem deserves the individual attention it will get in your own thread. Moreover, there will be less chance of confusing solutions for your specific problem with the responses we have offered to the OP's ( rudy@'s) very broad problem statement here.
